Jinan focuses on intangible cultural heritage inheritance
Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, has been making efforts to promote the preservation of intangible cultural heritages to fuel its culture industry.
Since 2018, local authorities have issued a slew of policies to support the city's intangible cultural heritage projects, inheritors and representative folk artists.
Intangible cultural heritage training courses have been carried out in schools to help more students get to know traditional Chinese culture. For example, Shanghe county currently completed the full implementation of the school-based curriculum for the drum yangko dance, a project for the preservation of the nation's intangible cultural heritage.
A total of 116 schools in Jinan have started offering courses on intangible cultural heritages. With a popularity rate of more than 60 percent, it has developed into a crucial component in creating a distinctive educational environment and cultivating students' aesthetic education.
In addition, the local government also supported the construction of intangible cultural heritage museums to help display local culture.
Now, 13 Yellow River intangible cultural heritage museums and a batch of special museum featuring intangible cultural heritages have been built in Jinan. Online trade platforms also have been built to promote the city's traditional opera culture.
Jinan's rich history has created a variety of intangible cultural heritages. Jinan currently is home to 13 national intangible cultural heritage items, 108 items at the provincial level and 450 items at the municipal level. It has built China's first urban traditional craft workshop in Lixia district and hosted six national brand events such as the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo and China Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Week.
Jinan is also the permanent host venue of the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo. The seventh edition will be held from Aug 25 to 29 and will showcase a wide range of intangible cultural heritage items from home and abroad.
